Zulu Maidens Coming of Age

Zulu Villages, Zulu Culture and Traditional Zulu Ceremonies.

We have the privilege of being invited to these ceremonies on a very regular basis. We have close links with the communities and our network identifies at least 3 to 4 ceremonies a week. Guaranteed Saturday & Sunday.
These traditional Zulu weddings and coming of age ceremonies take place in rural Zululand. We drive out into the Zululand hills in search of a ceremony that we have been invited to but don't quite know how to get to!!This makes for a great adventure as we eventually check out other guests winding there way over the hills in a common direction. You can never be too early or late. This is Zulu time at it's best.
Colourfull Drummer
We meet the families and watch on while the preparations and final arrangements are being sorted out. There is strict protocol to be observed by both families. The pre ceremony rituals and customs are all explained to you by your guide.
These are truly colourful and vibrant real life events set in an idyllic backdrop of the zulu countrside.
The Zulu are very enthusiastic about sharing their traditions with their neighbours and overseas visitors. Once you have been introduced you are regarded as one of the family and you will be surely transformed into a new world where sharing and generosity of spirit will overwhelm you. Vibrant colourful and joyous ceremony that will remain etched in your memory forever.

A Zulu Maiden
Each ceremony has it peculiarities and your Zulu guides will explain each part of the ceremony to you.
This is also a chance to meet ordinary South Africans in their environment to share lifes experiences and learn about real Zulu life as it is today.

A Zulu Wedding
The Zulu wedding takes many shapes and forms. Usually the bride changes more than three times on her wedding day, showing off to her in-laws how beautiful she is in different colors. Although it is not a Zulu custom for the bride to wear the white wedding gown, nowadays brides prefer to do so. The wedding takes place at the church, and during this time the bride is dressed in white. After church the wedding occurs at the bridegroom’s home. The bride changes into traditional outfit. During the traditional wedding the parties from the bride and the groom side compete through Zulu dance and songs.

Bridegroom
During this ceremony the family of the groom slaughters a cow to show that they accept the bride in their home. The bride puts money inside the stomach of the cow while the crowd looks on. This is a sign that she is now part of the family. The wedding ceremony ends with the bride giving gifts in the form of blankets to her new family, including the extended family. This tradition is called ukwaba. Even the long-deceased family members receive gifts and are represented by the living ones. The family cover themselves with the blankets in an open area where everybody will see. The spectators ululate, sing, and dance for the family. (humnet)

You are also encouraged to take part in the villages zulu culture and ceremonies. If you have the confidence we will give you a stick and sheild to perform your dance.Invariable there will be a huge ovation from the crowd"Feel Free" as they say at Zulu Traditional
