Ndlela ka Sompisi Ntuli served during the reign of King Shaka and later his brother and successor King Dingane. He showed extraordinary prowess as a soldier during some of the most romantic and dramatic moments of Zulu nations history. An unveiling ceremony was held at the Godide Traditional Authority centre in Zululand on 14th August 2004.

Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi in his capacity as Traditional Prime Minister of the Monarch and the Zulu Nation, and as chairperson of the House of Traditional leaders made the following comments:
That we have gathered here one hundred and sixty five years after the passing away of Ndlela ka Sompisi, is a tribute to the durability and sense of national pride and identity we share as a people.

It is not an exaggeration to say that the unstinting bravery of the man ensured the perpetuity of the Zulu Royal family. After Dinganes assassination in 1828 Ndlele with charactersistic astuteness and deftness, survived Dinganes purging.
To become the Commander in chief and Prime Minister of the Zulu nation. He performed a high wire and dangerous act, which was ultimately to result in his violent death. The King to prevent contenders to the throne had many of his fathers children murdered. He persuaded Dingane not to murder his brother Mpande, arguing that it would diminish his greatness and that, in any case, Mpande did not aspire to the throne. The Battle of Maqongqe where the forces of Mpande and Dingane clashed in 1840 culminated in Dingane calling Ndlele a traitor.

His death was a cruel death that our hero had to endure when his King and master who he had served so well ordered his death through slow strangling with a cow hide throng.
It would be no exaggeration to say Ndlela paid with life for the presevation of the Zulu Royal line that we have today. Zulu wisdom encapsulates a fact of life that whoever is responsible for any King acceding to the throne, never reigns with him. (UMBEKI WENKOSI UZITHELA ISISILA) Ndlela ka Sompisi earned himself a place of honour in the pantheon of our nations hero’s and the zulu people.
Though we are proudly part of and parcel of South Africa, we must also defend and promote our Kingdom. To build a a successful nation it is vital that we cherish each one of our constituent culture of traditions and beliefs.
