For your African Zululand Safari we get up early to get an early peak at the wild animals in the Umfolozi / Hluhluwe game park. We drive on the R66 passed the birthplace of Zulu on the slopes of Mandawe hill and head toward the Melmoth highlands. We then proceed to the eMakhosini Valley where we visit the new monument overlooking the Valley of the Zulu Kings. A quick historical overview of the Zulu nation from Zulu to Shaka’s birth. We then pass the eMakhosini Valley and battlefield of Goqkli Hill which made King Shaka famous. We take a glancing interest and reflect on a world of wild game and people living together in that wonderful era.

On your African Safari, we pass through the Cengeni gates into the southern reaches of Umfolozi where the game is so plentiful. We take the long route towards Mpila camp where we have refreshments and a picnic breakfast. At Mpila we check out the location of the various game and herds from the previous days sightings. The rest of our trip we take the long route to Memorial gate to maximise our game viewing opportunities. Our tour can include an afternoon one hour boat trip on the St Lucia Estuary to check out the Crocodiles and abundant Hippo

Protected since 1897 the Umfolozi takes in a gigantic 118,000 acres ranging over floodplain and hill country. Hluhluwe is a respectable 57,000 acres and includes areas of misty mountain forest as well as bush and grasslands.
Hluhluwe-Umfolozi is loaded with wildlife, including as many as 1300 white rhinoceros (Square lipped). This is the biggest population of white rhino in the world. We search for the big five - buffalo, elephant, lion, leopard, and black rhino - hooked lipped. This is the last refuge of this uni -horned dinosaur- look alike species. These reserves offer some of the best -- and cleverest -- wildlife viewing in the country. The vegetation, thickest along river courses, is composed largely of tamboti and acacia trees.

White and black rhino, waterbuck, wildebeest, nyala, kudu, buffalo, giraffe, cheetah, lion and crocodile, wild dogs as well as many other smaller animals and a diverse birdlife can be observed. Umfolozi is a Zulu word embracing the essential qualities displayed by the leader of a span of oxen - courage, strength and patience. This is your great Zululand Safari experience.
These African Safari tours need to be structured to suite your requirements and time schedule. Game walks and overnights in the park need to be arranged in advance as would be the St Lucia boat tour.
If you have your own vehicle then we can help you plan your tours.The George Hotel in Eshowe provides a good base to do your tours at a most economical overnight rate. They are only an hour and a quarters drive from Umfolozi / Hluhluwe entrance at Cengeni Gate.
